ACTIVITIES and EVENTS

General Participation Guidelines
Always sign up ("register") for an event by contacting the leader so you can be reached if there is a change or an event cancellation.  Trip Leaders make arrangements and may set limits on some trips and activities as needed.  If you are not pre-registered you may be turned away at some events.

If you did not sign up for an event or activity at the last club meeting and
would like to do so, please post a message to our YahooGroups list, send email to
someone on our "Contacts" page, or call the leader directly.

Every Tuesday, 5:45 pm – WALK THE DOWNTOWN BRIDGES: Meet at the Chart House restaurant parking lot to be ready to walk a bridge loop at 5:45pm. There is no need to call in advance. Leader: Judy M 398-2750.

AUGUST 12th , SATURDAY, 6:30 AM, BIKE RIDE ON JEKYLL ISLAND: This is a leisurely ride and any type bike will do. We will be meeting at Denny’s at the Jacksonville airport exit. Leader: Marta 635-7170.

AUGUST 19TH, SATURDAY, 7:30 AM, FLY A KITE DAY: Come out and enjoy a day on the beach. Bring you own kite and let rip. Flying a kite is like bringing back you childhood. Bring water and a kite. Meet at the Village Inn on 3rd Street just south of Atlantic in Neptune Beach for breakfast. Leader: Heike M.  998-2312.

AUGUST 26th,SATURDAY, 7:00 AM, PADDLING JUNIPER RIVER: http://floridatraveler.com/travel_articles/juniper-springs.htm - We will paddle down the picturesque Juniper River and have lunch at the usual place. Warning, this is not a beginner’s paddle. The park charges an entrance fee of $4.00 per person. Rental canoes are available for $33.55 per canoe plus a $20 cash refundable deposit. You can call ahead, pay, and reserve canoes in advance which is a good idea during the summer.  If you have your own boat, we may use their shuttle or do our own. We will meet at the McDonalds in Orange Park across from the Dog Track. Bring plenty of water, snacks, and a lunch. AUGUST 27th,SUNDAY, 4:00 PM, PLANNING MEETING: The activities listed in this newsletter are planned and organized by members of Sidetrackers, there is no planning committee. If there is something you want to do and want someone to do it with, check out, pick a date, fill out the Activity Write up sheet and bring it to the planning meeting. We will be planning for October, November and December. We will be doing a cookout at Nancy N. house so bring a dish to share, hamburgers, ribs or brat will be provided. Bring a folding chair and what you want to drink. Call Nancy for directions (Arlington), 553-2805. 

SEPTEMBER 2ND thru 4th , SATURDAY, LABOR DAY WEEKEND: CAMPING AT BLUE SPRING PARK: We will be camping at be beautiful Blue Spring Park in High Springs, Florida. There are four springs to swim in,  and trails to walk and explore. Other activities include volleyball, horseshoes, snorkeling and fishing. Being on the Santa Fe River, they rent canoes and tubes for floating in the river and springs. You can bring your boat and launch from the boat launch. We can take one day and do the run down the river from the outfitters in High Springs. Camping is first come, first get a site/area. There are no reservations and no designated camp sites. The cost is $12.00 a night for primitive camping which means no water or electrical but use of comfort stations. There are RV sites for $18.00 for a night with electrical and water, they go quick. Since there are no reservations, you can come when you want to, stay what nights you want to and leave when you want to. You can also just come for the day. Leader Diane J. 821-6707.

SEPTEMBER 9TH, SATURDAY, 8:00AM, KINGSLEY PLANTATION HIKE: We will be hiking and swimming at Black Rock Beach. Bring a lunch and water/drinks. Leader: Bob H. 241-4341, 866-1375.

SEPTEMBER 23RD  AND 24TH, SATURDAY, SUWANNEE RIVER PADDLE AND CAMPING TRIP: We will be paddling down the Suwannee River, camping over night and paddling to the take out location. Meeting place and time to be determined. Leaders: Jeff and Sandy 955-4550 and Earline. 998-4244 h 614-8629 c.

NOVEMBER 2nd thru the 5th, THURSDAY TO SUNDAY, CAMPING TRIP TO DAVIDSON RIVER NEAR BREVARD, N.C.:  Back by popular demand, this is a fun-filled action packed camping trip right in the middle of glorious fall foliage. There are several beautiful hiking trails, falls, and many things to see right in Pisgah National Forest.  We'll have plenty of activities to choose from including visits to the Pisgah Center for Wildlife Education, the fish hatchery, Cradle of Forestry Discovery Center, Looking Glass Falls, Sliding Rock and the Biltmore House.  The Saturday (Nov. 4th) we are there will be the first weekend that the Biltmore House is decorated for Christmas. There is a charge to explore the house so you will need to make reservations (http://www.biltmore.com).  There are also hiking trails right inside the campground and we always have a good time around the campfire.  Enjoy 3 nights on prime camping sites for the low, low price of $32.50 per tent.  Find a warm buddy to share your tent and save $$$!  I have 18 spots reserved and already have them filled so contact me to make arrangements for more. All money must be turned in by the August 2nd Sidetracker meeting or you will forfeit your site.  If anyone wants to come after this date you will have to make your own reservations.  Don't delay - the campground fills up fast.  More info to follow... MONTHLY MEETINGS are always on the first Wednesday of the month at 6:30 p.m.
at the Jacksonville Public Library, Southeast Regional Branch, at the Gate Parkway exit off
J. Turner Butler Boulevard.  Subscribers to our free YahooGroups email list service
