 ACTIVITIES and EVENTS

General Participation Guidelines
Always sign up ("register") for an event by contacting the leader so you can be reached if there is a change or an event cancellation.  Trip Leaders make arrangements and may set limits on some trips and activities as needed.  If you are not pre-registered you may be turned away at some events.

If you did not sign up for an event or activity at the last club meeting and
would like to do so, please post a message to our YahooGroups list, send email to
someone on our "Contacts" page, or call the leader directly.

EVERY TUESDAY at 5:45 PM - WALK THE DOWNTOWN BRIDGES:  Meet at the Chart House restaurant parking lot to be ready to walk a bridge loop at 5:45pm.  There is no need to call in advance.  Leader:  Judy M 398-2750 (Home)

May 13th – 14th Friday night and Saturday, 6:00 p.m. Camping and paddle Juniper SpringsBe the first down the river on Sat. morning and hopefully see lots of wildlife. The park charges an entrance fee of $3.00 per person. Rental canoes are available for $27.82 per canoe plus a $20 refundable deposit. Note that the deposit must be paid in cash. You can call ahead, pay, and reserve canoes possibly up to two weeks in advance. They will shuttle you for $5.00, if you have your own boat. Campsites rent for $15.00 a night. Bring camping gear, boat, food, lunch for the river run and water. Meet at Hardees on Lane Ave. Leader: Diane J. 821-6707

May 21st Saturday, 7:45 p.m. Guided ghost tour in St. Augustine: Join us on a walking ghost tour that enters a certified haunted building and takes you on a journey through the dark and narrow streets of historic St. Augustine. Our guide will enlighten us with several haunting tales. The cost of the ticket is $10.00. We will meet for dinner at 6:00 at Harry’s Seafood Restaurant. For the just the tour, meet at Harry’s Seafood Restaurant at 7:45. Leaders: Heike M. 998-2312 and Gene M. 742-1120.

May 22nd Sunday, 6:00 p.m. Beach Walk and Picnic: We will walk along the beach and afterwards have a picnic dinner. Picnic may be a box dinner for a small charge. Bring water and a chair. Leader: Marta 725-9521.

May 28th through May 30th Memorial Day weekendIf you have never been to the Florida Folk Festival in White Springs, you have missed a good time; and if you have been, you are probably ready to go again. Check out the web site http://www.floridastateparks.org/folkfest/
We will spend the entire weekend there because you just cannot do enough in one day. Some people wanted a trip like this closer to home for the Holidays, and this Festival is a great deal of fun and very laid back. We can either walk or ride your bike back and forth from camping to the Festival. Camping is a 3-night minimum for each tent for 1 or 2 persons - a total of about $40. Campsites are right on the river. Advance tickets for the 3-day Festival are $35 dollars for all 3 days. We could have a nice bike ride in the woods and in the country one day besides enjoying the music, etc. of the Festival. See the leader for advanced tickets and campsite reservations. June 1st - MONTHLY MEETING AT THE LIBRARY

June 3rd Friday night, 6:00 p.m. Art Walk in St. AugustineCome wander through the streets of St. Augustine, browsing in art galleries, sipping on wine and nibbling on cheese. We will meet at 6:00 p.m. in the plaza/square located in downtown St. Augustine at the foot of the Bridge of Lions. Leader: Marta 725-9521.

June 5th Sunday afternoon, 4:00 p.m. Quarterly Planning Meeting: We will be picnicking at Sunny Acres city park. Bring a dish to share and ideas for events. Chicken and drinks will be provided. We will play volleyball and yard games along with planning activities for July, August and September. The park is located in Arlington at 9424 Ft. Caroline Road. Leader: Diane 821-6707.

June 11th Saturday, 7:30 a.m. Paddle on the Santa Fe RiverIt is a fun paddle on the scenic Santa Fe River. There will be a cost for the shuttle service for those that bring your own boats. Rentals are available. We will put in at the boat ramp in High Springs and take out at the Hwy. 41 bridge. Bring lunch, water, and sun block, bug spray. We will meet and leave from Hardee’s on Lane Avenue. Leaders: Gene and Heike Messer 998-2312.

June 12th Sunday afternoon, 2:00 p.m. Golfing at Mandarin MillJoin us for an afternoon of playing miniature golf. Form your teams now for an all-out competition or show up and be a ringer. Meet at the Mandarin Mill parking lot, 10910 San Jose Blvd. across from Walmart, just south of I-295. Leader Diane J. 821-6707.

June 17th through 19th Friday through Sunday WeKiva Biking, Paddling and camping:

July 8th through 10th Highland Games at Grandfather’s Mountain and CampingOne of the largest gathering of the Clans in the nation with pipes and drums, highland dancing, sheep herding, Celtic rock and good Celtic music also. October 20th through 23rd Annual Leaf Looking/Fall trip to Table Rock State ParkTable Rock State Park is located in Pickens, S.C. on the South Carolina/Georgia border. We will hike, camp and explore the area. Three campsites will be reserved. If we fill those other can be reserved. Cabin accommodation is available and you are responsible for making those reservations. Contact the leader for others wanting to reserve a cabin.
