March 16th – 18th - St. Patrick’s Day
Parade and Camping Trip: We will camp at Skidaway Island State
Park, east of Savannah, GA. and drive six miles to downtown Savannah for the
parade on Thursday. Return after dinner to camp. Since Savannah is only two
hours from Jacksonville, feel free to make this a day trip by joining the
group in Savannah for the parade and returning to Jacksonville that night.
Leave from Denny’s at the Airport Rd. exit off I-95. Leader: John G.

March 19th Saturday, 7:45 p.m. – River Clean Up: We will
participate in the St. John’s River Clean up. You will need to have a boat
(canoe or kayak) to go out onto the river – canoe is preferable to get more
trash. Shore clean up is also available. A free lunch is served after the
activity downtown. We will be cleaning up Goodby’s Creek. Meet at the
Florida Gun and Tackle Club on San Jose next to the creek. Bring
water/drinks. Dress comfortably and plan to get dirty. Call Judy M. 398-2750
to sign up.
March 20th Sunday, 2:00 p.m. – Bike Ride at Atlantic Beach:
We will meet at the eastern end of Atlantic Blvd near Sea Turtle Inn to
ride north on paved roads. You will encounter some light traffic. Bring
snacks, water/drinks – and bike, of course. Leader: John T. 910-9417 to sign
up.
March 25th –27th - Tomoka State Park Camping Trip:
We will camp at the group campsite Friday and Saturday nights. Paddling on
Sat. either on the Tomoka River or in the park. Bring your own boat or rent
one in the park. Sunday, we will hike at Bulow Creek State Park. Cost is $3
per person per night to camp plus the entrance fee. Bring water/drinks, camp
gear and camp meals. There will be a hobo dinner Sat. night so bring a can
of vegetables for the pot. Leader: Diane J. 821-6707, call to sign up and
arrange Friday evening meeting time.
March 27th Sunday, 6:00 a.m. - Easter Sunrise Service at Jacksonville
Beach Sea Walk Pavilion and Amphitheater: We will meet in the
center of the lawn, between the two walkways, in front of the stage,
Jacksonville Beach Sea walk Pavilion, on First Street, ˝ block north of
Beach sidewalks Boulevard on the oceanfront for Easter Sunrise services.
Look for my orange ball cap. We will meet at the beach pavilion by 6:00am
for the service. It is beautiful watching the sun come up over the ocean
during the service. After the service, we will go to our home for breakfast.
We live at 2311 Covington Creek Circle, West. This is off San Pablo Road,
approximately ˝ the distance between Beach Blvd. and Atlantic Blvd. Turn
west off San Pablo Road for ˝ block and turn right. We are the last house on

April 1st –3rd - Cooper River Walk and
Camping Trip: We will camp in the suburbs of Charleston, SC on
John’s Island. Walk 7k from Mt. Pleasant, SC through downtown Charleston.
Accompany 10,000 other walkers and see tulips and azaleas blooming as we
stroll down Meeting Street to the Straw Market. The estimated total cost is
about $100. You will need camping gear. Meet at Denny’s at the Airport Rd
exit off I-95. Leader: John G. 910-1469, to sign up and arrange meeting
time.
April 6, 2005 – 7:00 PM: MONTHLY
MEETING
April 9th Saturday, 8:30 a.m. – Bike ride at the Jacksonville/Baldwin
Trail: The Jacksonville/Baldwin trail is part of the Rails to
Trails system. It is 14.5 miles one way. You can do all of it or part of it.
It is a paved path and an easy trip for all biking levels. Bring water,
snacks and a bicycle. Meet at the trailhead. Directions: Take I-295 north
from I-10 to Commonwealth, turn west or left on Commonweath, turn north or
right on Imeson Blvd. Leader: Judy M. 398-2750.
April 16th Saturday, 8:30 a.m. – Hike Guana Tolomato Matanzas National
Estuarine Research Reserve (GTMNERR) Guana River site: We will
hike to the south end of the park along a five-mile loop trail. The trail
wanders through the woods and along the Tolomato River with great views of
the marshes and Intracoastal Waterway. Bring water, bug spray and snacks.
Wear comfortable shoes. Leader: Diane J. 821-6707.
April 16th Saturday, 10:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m.– Earth Day celebration at
the Jacksonville Landing: Earth Day Jacksonville Ecology Fair
featuring booths, environmental information, children’s activities, recycled
craft projects, live music and theater. Earth Day has been a nationally
recognized holiday since April 22, 1970. Judy M. will be in a booth.
April 17th Sunday, 8:00 a.m.– Paddle at Alexander Springs State Park:
We will paddle down a beautiful river with lots of wildlife. It is a
7-mile run. Bring lunch and water. Bring your own boat or rental from the
park. Meet at the McDonald's parking lot on US 17 across from the Dog Track
in Orange Park. Leader: Pat T.262-1428.
April 22nd Friday, Time to be announced – Moonlight Hike at Roosevelt
Preserve:
The preserve is located in the Ft. Caroline area. We’ll hike to a view of
the St. Johns River and marshes. Meet at the Hardee’s on Merrill Road. Wear
comfortable shoes and bring plenty of water. Leader: John T 910-9417
April 23rd Saturday, 10:00 a.m. -12:00 p.m.– Map & Compass Instruction
& Practice at Westside Regional Park: Participants will learn
to determine bearings, how to set up travel locations on a map, and how to
determine bearings of travel locations. Each team of two will work to find
eight locations in the park. Each participant must have a compass. Please
keep in mind that flat compasses are best for map work. Participants should
wear appropriate clothing, shoes, and bring compass and bug repellent.

April 30th Saturday, 7:45 a.m. - Paint the Town: This is
a service project in connection with the Jacksonville Housing Partnership.
We will be painting the outside of a home in the Brentwood Neighborhood off
of Jacksonville. Participants in this project are elderly and own their own
homes. They are unable to do the work for themselves. You will receive a
“Paint the Town” T-shirt and lunch. After lunch you are excused for the day.
Wear clothes you don’t mind getting paint on. Meeting location to be

May 1st Sunday, 2:00 p.m. – Shrimp Boat Festival in Fernandina Beach:
The festival is full of arts and crafts, music, food and pirates. Wear
comfortable shoes. Meet at the anchor near the harbor/on the river at the
